RankMaster App Privacy Policy

This privacy policy describes how RankMaster handles information when you use our iOS application. RankMaster is published by 12F ApS, a Danish company (CVR 45362957), and this policy is written to meet our obligations under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

In short

RankMaster has a server, and this is the one 12F app where that matters. Most of our apps keep everything on your device. This one has leaderboards, and a leaderboard only exists if scores leave the device.
Your display name is public. It is shown to other players on the leaderboards. That is the point of it. Nothing else about you is shown to anyone.
You can play without an account, and if you do, nothing you play is sent to us at all.
We collect anonymous usage analytics so we can see which parts of the game work. There is currently no in-app switch to turn this off — see below, where we say so plainly rather than implying otherwise.
We do not track you. We never access the advertising identifier (IDFA), we show no ads, we use no advertising or attribution software, and we never share your data with data brokers or combine it with data from other companies.

Playing without an account

When you first open RankMaster you are given an anonymous session so that you can start playing immediately — there is no sign-up wall. That session is a random identifier belonging to one installation of the app on one device.

While you are anonymous, rounds you play are not sent to our server. No score, no run history, no leaderboard entry. What the app remembers — which questions you have seen, whether you have played today’s daily challenge, whether you have finished the introduction — is stored on your device only.

Signing in is optional and exists for one reason: so that your record survives a new phone and can appear on a leaderboard.

What Apple tells us. We use Sign in with Apple. Apple sends us a token identifying you and, on the first authorisation only, the name and email address you choose to share. You may use Apple’s Hide My Email relay, in which case we never see your real address. We use the name only to offer it to you as a display name; we do not email you.

What we then store on our server, which is operated by us in the EU:

An account identifier, and the Apple identity linked to it
A profile: your display name, a country code derived from your device’s region, and a seed used to draw your avatar
A run log: for each recorded round, the score, how many questions it had, how many you got exactly right, your best run, the mode and category, your language, the app version and when you played
One best-score row per leaderboard you appear on

What is public. Your display name and your score are shown to other players on the leaderboards. Your country code is stored but is not displayed. Your email address, your Apple Account and your account identifier are never shown to anyone.

You choose the display name. You are given a generated one such as Quiet Meridian when you start, and you can change it at any time under the profile icon → Change name.

Analytics

We collect anonymous usage data to understand how people play RankMaster and where they get stuck. This is done with PostHog, hosted in the EU — privacy policy.

What we collect:

Which mode you chose and whether you arrived from a link
That a round started, finished or could not be dealt, with the score, the number of questions, how many were exact and your best run
Whether a score saved, queued, failed or was skipped
That an account was created, upgraded, signed out or deleted; that a name change was accepted or rejected; that a sign-in offer was shown, opened or dismissed
Which leaderboard was viewed, and that a review prompt was asked for
Technical context added by the analytics software: device model, iOS version, app version, language and region, and whether the build is from the App Store, TestFlight, a simulator or a development machine

What we do not collect:

Your display name, your country code or your email address
The questions you were asked or the answers you gave
Precise location
The advertising identifier (IDFA)
Any screen recording or screenshot of the app

This is enforced by how the app is built, not only by policy: the analytics interface has no free-form field, so a new piece of information cannot be sent without a deliberate code change.

Identifiers. So that we can count distinct players rather than distinct sessions, analytics events carry the account identifier described above. It is meaningless outside RankMaster and cannot be used to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

Approximate location. As with any internet request, your IP address reaches our analytics provider. PostHog derives an approximate country and city from it and attaches that to the event. The app neither sends nor can switch this off — it is a setting on our analytics account — but because it is collected against your account identifier we declare it as coarse location in the app’s privacy report on the App Store.

Turning analytics off. There is currently no setting in the app to switch analytics off. We would rather say that here than leave you looking for one. If you would like your analytics data removed, write to us and we will delete the records held against your account identifier.

Tracking

RankMaster does not track you, as the term is used in Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework and in Apple’s App Store guidelines. Specifically:

We do not access the advertising identifier (IDFA), and the app contains no advertising, attribution or ad-network software.
We do not link the data we collect with data from other companies for advertising purposes.
We never share your data with data brokers.
The app shows no advertising.

For this reason the app does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission — there is nothing to authorise.

Permissions the app asks for

RankMaster asks for no device permissions. It does not use your camera, photos, contacts, microphone, calendar, notifications or location services.

Where your data is held

Accounts, profiles, scores and leaderboards are stored on servers operated by 12F ApS in the EU. Analytics are held by PostHog in the EU. We do not sell data, and we do not transfer it outside the EU/EEA for these purposes.

How long we keep data

Your account, profile and leaderboard entries are kept until you delete your account.
Daily leaderboards are removed after 30 days and weekly leaderboards after 12 weeks, automatically.
Analytics are kept only as long as they are useful for improving the game, subject to PostHog’s own retention policy.
Anything stored only on your device goes when you delete the app.

Children’s privacy

RankMaster is a general-audience game and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because display names are public, please choose one that does not identify you.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Denmark, Datatilsynet).

Two of these you can exercise in the app immediately:

Correct — change your display name at any time under the profile icon → Change name.
Delete — profile icon → Delete account removes your account, your profile and your leaderboard entries from our server. Deleting the app alone does not do this; it removes what is on the device and leaves the account behind.

Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the “Last Updated” date at the top of the page.
